IMMUNISATIONS

Immunisations are a safe and effective way of protecting us against the most serious infections before we come in contact with them in the community.

Immunisations not only protects your child/ yourself, but also others in the community, by reducing the spread of diseases.

The practitioners supported by Tyner Road Medical Centre oversee all aspects of their patients’ immunisation care. Vaccinations are recorded, and reminder systems are used to notify patients when immunisations are due.

Childhood and adult immunisations at Tyner Road Medical Centre are provided in accordance with the Victorian Immunisation Schedule and the National Immunisation Program (NIP). The NIP outlines vaccines that are routinely recommended for children, adolescents, adults at risk, and older adults, and the ages or circumstances under which they should be administered as part of standard care.

If your child is due for an immunisation or has not received vaccinations according to the recommended schedule, please arrange an appointment with your doctor. Where appropriate, a catch-up immunisation program can be organised.

The practitioners we support also provide a range of travel vaccines. Please refer to the following section for more information.

Travel Health and Immunisations

Prevention is critical when it comes to travel health. Experiencing illness while travelling can significantly disrupt your plans and overall experience.

Book an appointment with your doctor in advance, to discuss which vaccinations are required for the location you’re travelling to.

We recommend you attend 6-8 weeks prior to intended travel to seek travel medicine and vaccination advice.

Your practitioner will assess your travel plans and recommend the vaccines appropriate for your destination, health status, and individual risk factors.

The practitioners we support provide a range of travel vaccines at our clinic, including:

  • Hepatitis A

  • Hepatitis B

  • Typhoid

  • Influenza (seasonal)

  • Yellow Fever

Medicare does not cover the cost of travel vaccinations, but this cost may be refundable in part from your private health insurance provider.
